"Creating - that is the great salvation from suffering and life's alleviation."
— Frederich Nietzsche. Thus Spake Zarathustra
For five years, Eagles founder and chairman, John Wareham, the chief of Wareham Associates,a prominent New York leadership selection and development firm, served as an unpaid weekly volunteer teacher to prison inmates at the Rikers Island Correctional Complex. He created an innovative class, How to Break Out of Prison, and a book of the same title (published by Welcome Rain, New York). Impressed by the talent of his class members, and inspired by founding Eagles Kenneth Johnson and Joseph Roberts, Mr. Wareham created the Eagles Foundation to ensure that outstanding individuals fulfill their potentialities, and return as volunteer teachers and productive citizens to serve as role models to others.
Eagles Development Director, Jess Maghan, PhD., was formerly Director of Training, New York City Police Department, and Commissioner for Training, New York City Department of Corrections. A hands-on administrator, Dr Maghan is also professor of penology and ethics in criminal justice, and director of the Forum for Comparative Corrections, an international corrections resource center.
